If you are in a bad mood, there are things you can do right now to give yourself a positivity boost. Here are six that will make you feel instantly better.
1. Practice gratitude
You can do this by writing down what you are grateful for in a journal each day. This puts things in perspective and reminds you how good your life really is.
2. Get out in nature
Recent studies have shown that spending just 17 minutes a day – or 120 minutes a week – outside and in nature can have a positive effect on your mood.
3. Give back to others
Helping other people doesn’t only make their day better, but it can also make you more satisfied with your life and improve your overall wellbeing.
4. Move your body
Not only is regular exercise good for your physical health, but your mental health, too. It triggers the release of endorphins, which naturally boost your mood.
5. Be more present
Sometimes, we feel overwhelmed because we are worrying about the past or the future. Stay in the present and focus on what you can control right now.
6. Have compassion
This should be for yourself AND others. Treat yourself and those around you with kindness – we all make mistakes, and they can help us to grow.
