South Africans are no strangers to controversial sex scenes. I mean, who can forget the drama around Khanyi Mbau’s explosive scene in season two of The Wife? And the audience is once again talking about a sex scene involving a South African actress, but this time in an international series.
In the Mindy Kaling-created HBO Max series The Sex Life of College Girls (which is currently the most popular international series on Showmax), South African actress Lex King plays the role of Jillian. Jillian is a woman that lead character Leighton (played by Broadway actress Renee Rapp) meets on a dating app and then hooks up with.
At the time of publishing the video clip of their hook up scene had over 5 million views on YouTube. The Sex Lives of College Girls tells the story of four young women who are randomly assigned to be college roommates. The four main characters are Bela (Amrit Kaur) who is finally able to get out of a cage and be her best self, Kimberly (Pauline Chalamet) who is extremely good and is surprised at the actions of her classmates, Whitney (Alyah Chanelle Scott) who wants to be a pro soccer player but also have the best college experience, and finally Leighton who thinks she knows who she is but is not impressed with the girls she was assigned to live with.
Lex King has a Masters degree from King’s College London in Neuroscience and Psychology. Viewers would have previously seen her as Aphrodite in Troy: Fall of a City, The Good Lord Bird and American Princess.
